Why does our mind run after fame money and glamor? Is it necessary?

Guruji: Well, you got this question! First, you understand that the mind is running. Then you get this question, ‘Is it necessary?’ I leave this question to you. It is very personal, very individual. I don’t think it is necessary. But my answer will not necessarily suffice for you. It has to come from within. Otherwise, it will be just a mood making. ‘Oh, I don’t want money’, but one part of the mind will say, ‘No, I need money.’ One mind will say, ‘I don’t need fame and another will say, ‘No, I need fame’. Like this, the conflict starts happening. But when you wake up and see, and see those people who have had all this – how shallow and hollow they are, then naturally you find there is no significance in all this. Then neither will you crave for it, nor will you make any effort to renounce it. People who say, ‘I don’t want fame’, inside, somewhere, the mind is saying, ‘Oh, I want fame, I want fame’. When the sun has arisen, what is the use of torchlight? You are moving with torchlight and suddenly you realize there is no meaning in moving with the torchlight, when the sun is there. Then that is your experience, your true experience. So when you run behind things which are illusive – you will realize that it is causing more pain, more suffering and ‘it is not giving me what I really want’.

Then there is fulfillment, centeredness, a subtle solid strength comes from within. Then if fame comes, money comes, it doesn’t touch you. It comes or doesn’t come, doesn’t matter to you. ‘I want it’ or ‘I don’t want it’ are two sides of the same coin. Somewhat we need to be – let it be.

====================

The tougher the situation, the more it will make you think of the ways of your communication. How to communicate to the other person? What to do in which situation? All this can bring out a lot of frustration in you. And this is the challenge that you have to take.

======================

When your commitment is very strong then your achievement does not excite you or throw you off balance. You will see it as one stepping stone in your path.

Cause of Terrorist Attacks and Remedy

On one hand you feel pity and compassion for these people because they have never had exposure to true human values or spiritual knowledge. They are dedicated spiritually, they want to go somewhere to heaven, they want to meet God and they want to do God’s work. This is what is motivating them to do all this nonsense. If only they had exposure to the right knowledge, to the wisdom of meditation and of Vedanta.

Had they known that divinity is within each and every one of us, here and now; do you think they would go and do such things? Never! So the onus of responsibility lies on us too. We have not made the knowledge reach the entire world. We have to expand the reach of this knowledge to every nook and corner of this world. Like how people all over the world know how to brush their teeth. I would say that nearly all of the 7 billion people know how to brush their teeth. Why is it so? It is because we have taught them. We have cultured it in them.

Everybody wears clothes. Everybody takes a shower. Like this, everyone has to be taught mental hygiene, and meditation is mental hygiene. Knowledge keeps you mentally sane. Like dental hygiene, we must teach mental hygiene also to everyone in the world.

Teaching people non-violence is the first step towards it. “What are you fighting for? Why are you killing each other? Come on wake up”. In the name of religion, all these heinous crimes are happening because they think that they are doing good and they will go to heaven if they do it. They need an education that can make them experience heaven here and now. They do not need to look somewhere else. This is essential.

Peace education is missing in the world. If every child is taught the way to manage his own emotions and his own mind stuff, the world would be a much better place. You may not be able to eliminate violence totally, but you can reduce it to the minimum level.

Guidance to Youth Who Want to Join Politics

First, you do your sadhana and broaden you vision.

Second, you need to have enormous patience. You go with a big vision and there are all chances that your vision is squashed and smashed and it may reach a point that you will want to throw it away. But, don’t lose heart.

You may have to face disappointments one hundred times, but the 101th time you will succeed, but for this you need to have patience and perseverance. You should hold onto your vision and your ethics.

Third, never forget your spiritual side. Whatever work you have and however busy you are, take that much needed 4-5 days for a silence program once in a year. Take 20 minutes every day to sit and listen to knowledge and meditate. This will keep your energy up.

As a politician be careful about two things:

Money

Sex

These are the two things with which people can create scandals about you. You have to be careful not to be maligned. It is very easy to be maligned and then you will waste all your time in proving these false allegations. Better be careful from the very beginning as these are the two areas that can create scandals against you.

In the field of politics, when you are moving ahead, there are a hundred people trying to pull you down. So as a young, enthusiastic aspirant, you have to be very clean on these areas.

Another point is, don’t make politics a profession, it should be your mission. If it is your mission, you get enormous strength, energy and enthusiasm. But if you make it a profession you will have to experience a lot of wear and tear. So, keep these points in mind.

Handling Harassment

You have to see the situation and respond accordingly. If someone is constantly bothering you, then either you move away from there, or you confront that person. I will not advise you to bear someone’s harassment forever. Try to change the situation with intelligence, with tact, with strength and with love. You cannot do this only with power. If someone says that ‘I will change the situation only using physical power, it is not possible. There is a need for tact and intelligent action also. Love can melt even the hardest stones. With love you can bring the change.

Q: We have heard that Navratri is the triumph of Sattva over Rajas and Tamas. But are not all the three Gunas equally important for life to exist? How can we favour one over the other?

Guruji: No, it is always like that. One of the three will dominate. Sattva is always there in everybody, and so is Rajas and Tamas. All the three Gunas always exist together. But what dominates is what makes the difference. If Tamo guna dominates, there is misery. When Rajoguna dominates, there are conflicts. When Satguna dominates, there is awareness, knowledge and happiness. You should observe which is dominating, since that is what gives quality to that time.

==========================

Q: What is the difference between Guru, God and the soul?

+Guruji: Guru is knowledge, Guru is love. Guru is light, there is no difference between Guru, God and the Soul.
==========================

If you find you have some sins, give it to me, I will take care of it. Don’t worry about it. You give me your past and I will take responsibility of your past. You have nothing to do about it. You are relieved of your past. Forget about it. Move on to the future. The future is on a platter for you, fresh; so drop your past coat here.

Secret of Influence
Wanting to influence is itself a problem. What do you get by influencing people around you? You don’t know one secret: if you influence somebody, or make a big impression on them, they become jealous of you. And then, they try to pull you down. Or they don’t care and they make fun of you. In either case, what do you gain? More problems.

Just be your natural self. Simplicity, honesty, contentment, creativity – these will influence all the people around you.

Jesus – Embodiment of Love

Love is the most sought-after but least expressed mystery of life. We try to express love in so many ways, still it remains a mystery. And it rarely happens that love is expressed in its fullness, in its totality.

Jesus and love are synonymous. If you say love, you need not say Jesus and if you say Jesus, it means love. Jesus once said, “If you call God in my name, whatever you ask shall be given. For God is love.” You find such a complete expression of love in Jesus. Whatever little glimpses you may get here and there indicates that fullness, that ultimate expression of the inexpressible that life is striving to express all the time.

Love makes you weak, but brings you the kingdom of heaven. However strong you are, you are the weakest when you are in love. Yet love is the strongest force on this universe. Since love makes you weak, it also is scary. Among thousands, just a few followed Jesus. Many heard, but just a few came. Even after performing many miracles, only handful of people could recognise him.

Jesus said, “I have come to put man against man, father against son, daughter against mother.” Very few people have really understood what it means. Whom you think is your friend is really not a friend because he or she makes your faith on the matter strong, and spirit weak. “I have come to put one against each other, I have come to put fire, not make peace.” Jesus said this because he knew the depth of slumber. When you talk something nice, peaceful, everybody will go to sleep and when there is something sensational, people wake up and listen. This is how the human mind operates. And Jesus made all efforts for one to cross the mind and get into the soul, the spirit, the source of life, the Self. You break through the limited identities and recognise the Divinity within you. You are much more than just a human; you are part of the Divine. And you inherit the kingdom. And that kingdom is right here, right within you.

Love has no name, nor form. Love is abstract, yet it is very concrete. It has no name or form but manifests in all names and in all forms. This is the mystery of creation. You can see love everywhere in this creation if only you have an eye to see it. Just see a bird, and a small one in the nest. The bird comes and how it feeds its young one. See how the young one waits for the mother bird to come. There is love in it. There is love among fish. There is love in the sky. There is love underneath the water. There is love on the ground. And there is love in the outer space.

Every form is full of love and every name represents love. And that is how Jesus is One with the Father. Father is One with his creation. In India, the creation and creator are compared to the dance and the dancer. You cannot have a dance without a dancer. Dancer is in every move of the dance. The creator is in every spec of the creation. That is what is omnipresent, omnipotent. If God is omnipresent, he is present everywhere, isn’t it? The creator, if he is different from the creation, then he is not present in his creation. Then he is not omnipresent. The whole definition of God is gone.

Love is present everywhere, but somewhere it finds total expression. And the knowledge of the Self leads you towards that total expression of love, of blossoming of love. It lifts your eyes from all tiny little things. One Divine is providing for everybody. Neither the python goes to work nor the birds toil. Everybody is taken care of. Everything is taken care of.

Jesus said, “Love each other as much as I love you.” What more do you need to see that embodiment of love?

Gratitude

Cultivate the Healing Power of Gratitude

Gratitude is an immensely powerful force that we can use to expand our happiness, create loving relationships, and even improve our health. Many scientific studies, including research by renowned psychologists Robert Emmons and Michael McCullough, have found that people who consciously focus on gratitude experience greater emotional wellbeing and physical health than those who don’t.

In comparison with control groups, those who cultivated a grateful outlook:

Felt better about their lives as a whole

Experienced greater levels of joy and happiness

Felt optimistic about the future

Got sick less often

Exercised more regularly

Had more energy, enthusiasm, determination, and focus

Made greater progress toward achieving important personal goals

Slept better and awoke feeling refreshed

Felt stronger during trying times

Enjoyed closer family ties

Were more likely to help others and offer emotional support

Experienced fewer symptoms of stress

If you want more happiness, joy, and energy, gratitude is clearly  a crucial quality to cultivate. It is a fullness of heart that moves us from limitation and fear to expansion and love.

What is a miracle?
Author Marianne Williamson says a miracle is a shift in perception from fear to love. The root of the word “religion” is religio , which means to “bind back.” I think the realm of consciousness we most hunger for is a return to something basic and fundamental within us.

When we’re appreciating something, our ego moves out of the way and we connect with our soul….it is like rebooting your soul.

Gratitude brings our attention into the present, which is the only place where miracles can unfold. The deeper our appreciation, the more we see with the eyes of the soul and the more our life flows in harmony with the creative power of the universe.

Here are a few powerful gratitude practices for you to try:
1. Keep a Gratitude Journal

Since ancient times, philosophers and sages from every spiritual tradition have taught that cultivating gratitude is a key to experiencing deeper levels of happiness, fulfillment, and well being. One of the earliest advocates of a daily gratitude practice was Dutch philosopher Rabbi Baruch Spinoza. In the seventeenth century, he suggested that each day for a month, we ask ourselves the following three questions:

Who or what inspired me today?
What brought me happiness today?
What brought me comfort and deep peace today?

This practice, wrote Spinoza, would help us find more meaning and joy in our lives and would lead to profound inner transformation.

As you write in your journal, challenge yourself by not repeating items from the previous days, for this will make you look more deeply at all the “little” things that enhance your life and give you joy . . . waking in a warm bed; the aroma of your morning coffee, your favourite song; a phone call from a friend; the ability to touch, see, or hear; electricity; the beating of your heart; a hug.

You can write in your journal just before bed, when you wake up in the morning or just before you meditate. The time of day isn’t important; what is important is that you consistently take a few moments to consciously focus your mind on your blessings. Commit to keeping a journal for a month. What we put our attention on expands in our life. By offering gratitude for all the goodness we experience, we’re inviting the universe to give us more and more of what we want.

2. Write a Thank You Letter

Make a list of at least five people who have had a profound impact on your life. Choose one and write a thank you letter expressing gratitude for all the gifts you’ve received from that person. If possible, deliver your gratitude letter in person. In studies of people who have practiced this form of gratitude, the results have been amazing. Often the recipient of the letter had no idea what an impact he or she had had on another person and were deeply touched by the expression of such authentic gratitude. While we may often thank people verbally, the written word can often be even more powerful because someone has taken the time to write their appreciation. A letter can also be re-read and treasured, creating joy and love that will continue to ripple out into the universe.

3. Take a Gratitude Walk

This is a particularly useful practice when you’re feeling down or filled with stress and worry. Set aside 20 minutes (or longer if you can) and walk in your neighbourhood, through a park, around your office, or somewhere in nature. As you walk, consider the many things for which you are grateful . . . nurturing relationships, material comforts, the body that allows you to experience the world, the mind that allows you to really understand yourself, and your essential spiritual nature. Breathe, pause, and be grateful for the air that is filling your lungs and making your life possible. Pay attention to your senses – everything you’re seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and maybe even tasting – and see how many things you can find to feel grateful for. This is a powerful way to shift your mood and open to the flow of abundance that always surrounds you.

Gratitude is the memory of the heart…

Harald Haas: Forget Wi-Fi. Meet the new Li-Fi Internet-2

Now what I would like to do first is switch on the light, and I’ll simply, only switch on the light, for a moment, and what you’ll notice is that the instrument jumps to the right. So the solar cell, for a moment, is harvesting energy from this artificial light source. If I turn it off, we see it drops. I turn it on … So we harvest energy with the solar cell.

But next I would like to activate the streaming of the video. And I’ve done this by pressing this button. So now this LED lamp here is streaming a video by changing the brightness of the LED in a very subtle way, and in a way that you can’t recognize with your eye, because the changes are too fast to recognize. But in order to prove the point, I can block the light of the solar cell. So first you notice the energy harvesting drops and the video stops as well. If I remove the blockage, the video will restart.

And I can repeat that. So we stop the transmission of the video and energy harvesting stops as well. So that is to show that the solar cell acts as a receiver.

But now imagine that this LED lamp is a street light, and there’s fog. And so I want to simulate fog, and that’s why I brought a handkerchief with me.

And let me put the handkerchief over the solar cell. First you notice the energy harvested drops, as expected, but now the video still continues. This means, despite the blockage, there’s sufficient light coming through the handkerchief to the solar cell, so that the solar cell is able to decode and stream that information, in this case, a high-definition video.

What’s really important here is that a solar cell has become a receiver for high-speed wireless signals encoded in light, while it maintains its primary function as an energy-harvesting device. That’s why it is possible to use existing solar cells on the roof of a hut to act as a broadband receiver from a laser station on a close by hill, or indeed, lamp post.

And It really doesn’t matter where the beam hits the solar cell. And the same is true for translucent solar cells integrated into windows, solar cells integrated into street furniture, or indeed, solar cells integrated into these billions of devices that will form the Internet of Things. Because simply, we don’t want to charge these devices regularly, or worse, replace the batteries every few months.

As I said to you, this is the first time I’ve shown this in public. It’s very much a lab demonstration, a prototype. But my team and I are confident that we can take this to market within the next two to three years. And we hope we will be able to contribute to closing the digital divide, and also contribute to connecting all these billions of devices to the Internet. And all of this without causing a massive explosion of energy consumption — because of the solar cells, quite the opposite.

Managing Imperfection

Misunderstandings crop up, it is a normal and natural phenomena, whoever it is, maybe your best friends, there will be some misunderstanding. Between husband and wife, there will be some misunderstanding. Between parents and children, there are misunderstandings happening. Wisdom is to rise above it. We get so upset and angry because we don’t leave room for imperfections. We should leave a little room for imperfection.

You know, you keep a garbage can at the house so that you can put any garbage in the can. Suppose you think there should be no corner for the garbage can at home, do you know what will happen? There will be garbage everywhere, in the whole house! So, this is why we must leave some space for imperfections. If someone is imperfect, just accommodate them. In due course of time, they’ll change. This will increase your tolerance level. You know, today, this is what we lack very seriously. People are becoming less and less tolerant. Look at the older generation, how calm and tolerant they are. And look at the other generation – how intolerant they are becoming! This is the case all over the world: in the East, West, North, and South, everywhere.
======================
Life is like a river. Sometimes muddy water fills the river, sometimes clear water fills it; sometimes all the leaves of the fall float in the river and sometimes logs float, but the river never stops. A river has something to teach us, and that is — just move on. That’s it.
======================
Q: Why does anyone on this planet ever need to suffer?

Guruji: Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional. One doesn’t need to suffer if they are educated and if they have the knowledge.
======================
I consider aggression as a sign of weakness. Anger is a sign of weakness.
