* * * *

======================

Life-changing thoughts by Sri Guru Nanak Dev-2

“Those who were pre-ordained to have no good karma at all – gazing into the lamp of emotional attachment, they are burnt, like moths in a flame”

” Reading their books over and over again, people continue making mistakes; they are so proud of their religious robes. But what is the use of bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, when the filth of stubborn pride is within the mind?”

“The servant carries the bags of money on his head, but it goes to his master’s house, and he receives only pain. The man sits as a king in his dreams, but when he opens his eyes, he sees that it was all in vain.”

“If I could live for millions and millions of years, and if the air was my food and drink, and if I lived in a cave and never saw either the sun or the moon, and if I never slept, even in dreams – even so, I could not estimate Your Value. How can I describe the Greatness of Your Name?”

“Seize and burn the unbearable; seize and kill the imperishable; leave behind your doubts, and then, you shall drink in the Nectar.”

“If the parent is a drunkard, a gambler and a cheat, no amount of text book ethics can cure the sons. I like children and the young innocence. I will not allow them to be blamed. The fault lies wholly on the shoulders of the elders, the parents, and the leaders who shape the norms which they imbibe.”

” First, the baby loves mother’s milk; second, he learns of his mother and father; third, his brothers, sisters and aunts; fourth, the love of play awakens. Fifth, he runs after food and drink; sixth, in his sexual desire, he does not respect social customs. Seventh, he gathers wealth and dwells in his house; eighth, he becomes angry, and his body is consumed. Ninth, he turns grey, and his breathing becomes labored; tenth, he is cremated, and turns to ashes. His companions send him off, crying out and lamenting. The swan of the soul takes flight, and asks which way to go.”

“He seeks no advice when He builds; He seeks no advice when He destroys. He seeks no advice while giving or taking. He alone knows His Creative Power; He Himself does all deeds. He beholds all in His Vision. He gives to those with whom He is pleased.”

“Perfectly fulfilled and famous are those, in whose minds the Supreme Lord God abides. Their reputation is spotless and pure; they are famous all over the world.”

“The word is the Guru, The Guru is the Word, For all nectar is enshrined in the world , Blessed is the word which reveal the Lord’s name But more is the one who knows by the Guru’s grace.”

Life-changing thoughts by Sri Guru Nanak Dev-1

A message for eternity

When in the Middle East, the West and the rest of Asia slavery, class and race intolerance was rife and disregard between the different classes and caste was at a peak, Guru Nanak preached against discrimination and prejudices. It had been a custom at that time for religious leaders to address only their own congregation for segregation of the different religions – but Guru Nanak spoke to all of humanity. Here’s what he preached…

A message for eternity

“Burn worldly love, rub the ashes and make ink of it, make the heart the pen, the intellect the writer, write that which has no end or limit.”

“Even Kings and emperors with heaps of wealth and vast dominion cannot compare with an ant filled with the love of God.”

“Owing to ignorance of the rope the rope appears to be a snake; owing to ignorance of the Self the transient state arises of the individualized, limited, phenomenal aspect of the Self.”

“There is but One God, His name is Truth, He is the Creator, He fears none, he is without hate, He never dies, He is beyond the cycle of births and death, He is self illuminated, He is realized by the kindness of the True Guru. He was True in the beginning, He was True when the ages commenced and has ever been True, He is also True now.”

“Sing the songs of joy to the Lord, serve the Name of the Lord, and become the servant of His servants”

“There is only one Solution, for all our problems…There is only one cure, for all our ills, It is free…It has no side effects, one can have it any Time, Day or Night…Simran ! Simran ! Simran!”

“Those blessed with the karma of good actions praise the Lord. O Nanak, they make the Guru their spiritual teacher. In the fourth watch of the early morning hours, a longing arises in their higher consciousness. They are attuned to the river of life; the True Name is in their minds and on their lips.”

“You shall obtain the fruits of your mind’s desires, by focusing your consciousness on the Lord’s Lotus Feet. He is totally pervading the water and the land; He is the Lord of the World-forest. Behold Him in exaltation in each and every heart. Nanak gives this advice.”

“Everyone cries out, More! More! , with the idea of receiving. How great should we call the Giver? His Gifts are beyond estimation. O Nanak, there is no deficiency; Your Storehouses are filled to overflowing, age after age.”

” At the age of ten, he is a child; at twenty, a youth, and at thirty, he is called handsome. At forty, he is full of life; at fifty, his foot slips, and at sixty, old age is upon him. At seventy, he loses his intellect, and at eighty, he cannot perform his duties. At ninety, he lies in his bed, and he cannot understand his weakness. After seeking and searching for such a long time, O Nanak, I have seen that the world is just a mansion of smoke.”

Lesser known laws of Karma that can change your life-2

The Law of Giving and Hospitality

If one believes something to be true, then sometime in their life they will be called upon to demonstrate that truth. Here is where one puts what they claim to have learned into practice.

The Law of Here and Now

One cannot be in the here and now if they are looking backward to examine what was or forward to worry about the future. Old thoughts, old patterns of behaviour, and old dreams prevent us from having new ones.

The Law of Change

History repeats itself until we learn the lessons that we need to change our path.

The Law of Patience and Reward

All Rewards require initial toil. Rewards of lasting value require patient and persistent toil. True joy comes from doing what one is supposed to be doing, and knowing that the reward will come in its own time.

The Law of Significance and Inspiration

One gets back from something whatever they put into it. The true value of something is a direct result of the energy and intent that is put into it. Every personal contribution is also a contribution to the Whole. Karma is a lifestyle that promotes positive thinking and actions. It also employs self-reflection to fix the problems in one’s life.

The Law of Focus

One cannot think of two things at the same time. If our focus is on Spiritual Values, it is not possible for us to have lower thoughts like greed or anger.

The Law of Responsibility

Whenever there is something wrong in my life, there is something wrong in me.  We mirror what surrounds us – and what surrounds us mirrors us ; this is a Universal Truth. – We must take responsibility what is in our life.

The Law of Connection

The smallest or seemingly least important of things must be done because everything in the Universe is connected. Each step leads to the next step, and so forth and so on. Someone must do the initial work to get a job done. Neither the first step nor the last are of greater significance. They are both needed to accomplish the task.

Lesser known laws of Karma that can change your life-1

What is Karma?

Karma is the Sanskrit word for action. One can think of karma as the spiritual equivalent of Newton’s Law of Motion. “For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction.” Basically, when we exhibit a negative force in thought, word, or action, that negative energy will come back to us. However, karma is not meant to be a punishment. It is present for the sake of education. How else is someone to learn how to be a good person if they are never taught that harmful action is wrong. A person only suffers if they have created the conditions for suffering.

The Great Law

“As you sow, so shall you reap”. This is also known as the “Law of Cause and Effect”. – If what we want is Happiness, Peace, Love, Friendship… Then we should BE Happy, Peaceful, Loving and a True Friend.

The Law of Creation

Life doesn’t just HAPPEN, it requires our participation. – We are one with the Universe, both inside and out. – Be yourself, and surround yourself with what you want to have present in your Life.

The Law of Humility

One must accept something in order to change it. If all one sees is an enemy or a negative character trait, then they are not and cannot be focused on a higher level of existence.

The Law of Growth

“Wherever you go, there you are.” It is we who must change and not the people, places or things around us if we want to grow spiritually. When we change who and what we are within our hearts, our lives follow suit and change too.

What is the Meaning of Life?-2

Of course, life can have a meaning; I just don’t buy into a universal meaning or purpose applicable to all and sundry. No panacea, no pansophy. What is even the “meaning” of meaning? Not everyone experiences bliss and peace in meditation, in rituals or in pursuit of an inner calling. The meaning of life is the one you deduce from it. Its purpose is the one you assign to it.

A doctor’s could be treating patients, a general’s could be protecting the borders and a soldier’s could be combating the enemy. A painter’s could be in art, a musician’s could be in melody just like a mother’s could be in her child. If Buddha’s meaning was in meditation, Einstein’s was in Relativity, Steve Job’s was in Apple. I see little difference.

Everything I state is only my view and not the universal view. I have no absolute answers. Do we not say to children that tooth fairy exists, that Santa exists? Do we not tell them that they are a gift from God rather than saying that they were born out of a sexual act? And later, when they grow up, do we not give them the real answers?

Why? Because you care. You care about what and how much they can handle. Not everyone is ready to hear the truth, let alone practice it. Physical age or bookish knowledge has no correlation to one’s readiness. If you are willing to listen, Nature is ceaselessly offering answers to your questions. The appeal of an answer is not dependent on the answer itself but on the mindset of the questioner. Similarly, the meaning of life is not so much about the meaning itself as much as it’s about the one on the quest for it.

A German approached Srila Prabhupada — the sweet and simple saint, the founder of ISKCON.

“Why am I always sad and depressed?” he said. “Why must I suffer?”

“Because,” said Prabhupada, “you are a rascal. You did a lot of bad karma in your past life and now you are paying the price.”

Many will frown at this seemingly uncompassionate response but this seeker immediately fell at Prabhupada’s feet and became his disciple. It worked for him. He said he got the answer he’d been long searching. Go figure.

As for the question, Does God Exist? Of course. What exists other than God? Only God exists. For another time.

“How old are you really?” a man said to Mulla Nasrudin.

“I’m 42 years old.”

“How can that be? Four years ago too you’d said you were 42!”

“That’s right,” replied Mulla. “I always stand by what I say.”

Consistency of beliefs is burdensome. How will you experience the beauty and depth of the ocean without undocking your ship? Give yourself room to learn, to play, to explore, to experience, to be. Come anew. Holding on to a belief may be comforting, compelling, even energizing, but letting go is liberating. It’s okay to prefer comfort over liberation if you so wish, it’s a question of choice, a matter of temperament. Take your pick.
