Rising in Divine Love

Rouse yourself to the behold Divinity that’s in you. First you wake up from inertia and dullness; then the human in you wakes up; thereafter the Divinity in you becomes evident.

One story says that after creating man, God said, “I made a mistake”. For God was flooded with complaints: “Why did you do this? Why did you do that?” God wondered why despite all that he had created, man was so full of complaints. Why was man grumbling most of the time? God went to a saint and said, “I am in deep trouble. Man may even drag me to court!” The saint whispered something into God’s ear. He told God to go and hide in the heart of man because that’s where man never goes. God’s eyes sparkled. He sneaked into the heart of man and has been lying hidden there ever since. Become aware, therefore, of the Divinity that’s in you.

So what then is God? God is beauty. God is space, joy and love, and God is all-pervading. God is the space in which everything exists, from which everything has come into existence, and into which everything dissolves. The space around you is not dead space; it is filled with energy and intelligence. That energy and intelligence is divinity. It is everywhere – inside you as well as outside you.

When a disciple once asked what God is, the master gently replied that God is Truth, beauty and love. God is that field and energy present in every particle of entire creation. You can feel it but cannot see it. You can experience that enormous energy when you go deep in meditation.

Once a man went to the Buddha and asked, “I don’t believe in God.” The Buddha said, “You are right”. The man went back, happy. A second man came and said, “I believe in God”, to which the Buddha once again said, “You are right”. That man also went back happy. Then, a third man came who humbly asked: “Some people say that there is no God. When I listen to their logic, I get convinced. But when I listen to saints, I feel that God exists. Now, I am confused. Does God exist or not?” The Buddha told him he’d come to the right place because he did not have a preconceived notion of God and so they could look for God together!

A perturbed mind can never go close to God. Drop your concepts of God. Sit with your eyes closed and go deep within yourself. When you experience depth then the truth will automatically dawn on you. You will find the answer.

The most relaxing or comfortable place is in you. Repose in that peaceful, cool, calm, serene depth of your being that is valuable and precious. All complaints disappear when you dive in to the inner recesses of your heart. Have you seen the mythological picture of Vishnu sleeping on the serpent? The serpent is the symbol of alertness, of awareness and on this the Lord is happily sleeping. Lakshmi, goddess of wealth is right there as well.

Cultivate love of divinity. It helps if you are with one who has found this love. To be like a child, you have to be with a child; to be happy, be with a happy person. The company of one who is in Divine love will make you shine in that love, too.

Every emotion is connected with the breath

Every emotion is connected with the breath. If you change the breath, change the rhythm, you can change the emotion.
Q: To walk on the path of Yoga, two things are essential: Practice & Dispassion. How to develop these two separately?

Guruji: Knowledge takes you towards dispassion, and action results in practice. For practice, we need to do something; we need to do pranayama, meditation, etc. Dispassion happens through knowledge and awareness. Just wake up and see this again and again – Everything is Nothing.

Before doing anything, there is nothing. After doing anything, there is nothing. So,nothing is really what everything is! You cannot become a true believer without first being an atheist. It is necessary to be an atheist. So first be an atheist. What does it mean to be an atheist? When one does not believe is anything.

When you say, ‘I don’t believe in this, I don’t believe in that, I don’t believe in anything. This is all nothing. Whatever I see is all nothing’, and you discard everything, then you will be able to see what is. So you cannot become a true believer without being an atheist in the first place.

That is why in the beginning, don’t believe anything. Don’t believe in anybody’s words. Then, don’t believe even in what your mind is saying.

So by negating everything one by one, you arrive at nothing. And when you arrive at nothing, you then realize something, ‘Oh! This nothing is everything!

This is the most beautiful knowledge.

In this way, through total disbelief we reach a place of total belief. From an atheist, you become an enlightened. In fact, only a good atheist can be a good believer.


Q: I am not able to concentrate for my mind is very flickering and playful. What should I do?

Guruji: Let the mind go wherever it wants to go.


Every time you are unhappy or miserable or lonely, you are just coming in touch with your own boundaries. At that moment what can you do? You can just be grateful and pray for peace. That very moment, you will start smiling and however hopeless the situation is, you will walk through it.

Door Closing

Consider the rather serious problems which arise in one’s mind in connection with disappointments and failures of the past, and the broken hearts that occur as a result of the loss of the material things or the loss of friends or loved ones.

Self-discipline is the only real solution for such problems. It begins with the recognition of the fact that there are only two kinds of problems: those you can solve and those you can’t solve.

The problems which can be solved should be immediately cleared by most practical means available, and those which have no solution should be put out of your mind and forgotten.

Let us think, for a minute, about this process of forgetting. Refer it as closing the door on some unpleasantness which is disturbing your equilibrium. Self-discipline, which means mastery over all emotions, can enable you to close the door between yourself and the unpleasant experience of the past. You must close the door tightly and lock it securely, so that there is no possibility of its being opened again. This is the way to treat unsolvable problems, too. Those who lack self-discipline often stand in the doorway and look wistfully backward into the past, instead of closing the door and looking forward into the future.

The door closing is a valuable technique. It requires the support of a good, strong will, and you have a strong will if you have the departments of your mind organized and under the control of your ego, as they should be.

Door closing does not make you hard, cold or unemotional, but does require firmness. Self-discipline cannot permit lurking memories of sad experiences, and it wastes no time worrying over problems which have no solution. You cannot yield to the temptation to relive your unhappy memories, for they destroy your creative force, undermine your initiative, weaken your imagination, disturb your faculty of reason, and generally confuse the departments of your mind.

You must place the power of your will against the door that shuts out that which you wish to forget, or you do not acquire self-discipline. This is one of the major services self-discipline can perform for you. It closes the door tightly against all manner of fears, and opens wide the doors of hope and faith!

Self-discipline closes the door against jealousy, hatred, revenge, greed, anger and superstition, and opens the door to friendship, goodwill, confidence and love.

Self-discipline looks forward, not backward. It roots out discouragement and worry and other negative emotions. And it not only encourages positive emotions, but it forces them to come before the faculty of reason every time they express themselves so that they too, may be kept under control.

Self-discipline makes your mind strong. It enables you to take possession of your mind and exercise your god-given right to control your mental attitude. You do not have real self-discipline until you organize your mind and keep it clear of all disturbing influences. Every principle of this philosophy must function through your mind, and self-discipline, which keeps your mind orderly, is the controlling factor in this process of becoming successful.

कोई तुम्हारी बुराई करता है

“कोई तुम्हारी बुराई करता है”
बहुत समय पहले की बात है किसी गाँव में मोहन नाम का एक किसान रहता था . वह बड़ा मेहनती और ईमानदार था . अपने अच्छे व्यवहार के कारण दूर -दूर तक उसे लोग जानते थे और उसकी प्रशंशा करते थे . पर एक दिन जब देर शाम वह खेतों से काम कर लौट रहा था तभी रास्ते में उसने कुछ लोगों को बाते करते सुना , वे उसी के बारे में बात कर रहे थे .

मोहन अपनी प्रशंशा सुनने के लिए उन्हें बिना बताये धीरे -धीरे उनके पीछे चलने लगा , पर उसने उनकी बात सुनी तो पाया कि वे उसकी बुराई कर रहे थे , कोई कह रहा था कि , “ मोहन घमण्डी है .” , तो कोई कह रहा था कि ,” सब जानते हैं वो अच्छा होने का दिखावा करता है …”

मोहन ने इससे पहले सिर्फ अपनी प्रशंशा सुनी थी पर इस घटना का उसके दिमाग पर बहुत बुरा असर पड़ा और अब वह जब भी कुछ लोगों को बाते करते देखता तो उसे लगता वे उसकी बुराई कर रहे हैं . यहाँ तक कि अगर कोई उसकी तारीफ़ करता तो भी उसे लगता कि उसका मजाक उड़ाया जा रहा है . धीरे -धीरे सभी ये महसूस करने लगे कि मोहन बदल गया है , और उसकी पत्नी भी अपने पति के व्यवहार में आये बदलाव से दुखी रहने लगी और एक दिन उसने पूछा , “ आज -कल आप इतने परेशान क्यों रहते हैं ;कृपया मुझे इसका कारण बताइये.”

मोहन ने उदास होते हुए उस दिन की बात बता दी . पत्नी को भी समझ नहीं आया कि क्या किया जाए पर तभी उसे ध्यान आया कि पास के ही एक गाँव में एक सिद्ध महात्मा आये हुए हैं , और वो बोली , “ स्वामी , मुझे पता चला है कि पड़ोस के गाँव में एक पहुंचे हुए संत आये हैं ।चलिये हम उनसे कोई समाधान पूछते हैं .”

अगले दिन वे महात्मा जी के शिविर में पहुंचे .

मोहन ने सारी घटना बतायी और बोला , महाराज उस दिन के बाद से सभी मेरी बुराई और झूठी प्रशंशा करते हैं , कृपया मुझे बताइये कि मैं वापस अपनी साख कैसे बना सकता हूँ ! !”

महात्मा मोहन कि समस्या समझ चुके थे .

“ पुत्र तुम अपनी पत्नी को घर छोड़ आओ और आज रात मेरे शिविर में ठहरो .”, महात्मा कुछ सोचते हुए बोले .

मोहन ने ऐसा ही किया , पर जब रात में सोने का समय हुआ तो अचानक ही मेढ़कों के टर्र -टर्र की आवाज आने लगी . मोहन बोला , “ ये क्या महाराज यहाँ इतना कोलाहल क्यों है ?”

“पुत्र , पीछे एक तालाब है , रात के वक़्त उसमे मौजूद मेढक अपना राग अलापने लगते हैं !!!”

“पर ऐसे में तो कोई यहाँ सो नहीं सकता ??,” मोहान ने चिंता जताई।

“हाँ बेटा , पर तुम ही बताओ हम क्या कर सकते हैं , हो सके तो तुम हमारी मदद करो “, महात्मा जी बोले .

मोहन बोला , “ ठीक है महाराज , इतना शोर सुनके लगता है इन मेढकों की संख्या हज़ारों में होगी , मैं कल ही गांव से पचास -साठ मजदूरों को लेकर आता हूँ और इन्हे पकड़ कर दूर नदी में छोड़ आता हूँ .”

और अगले दिन मोहन सुबह -सुबह मजदूरों के साथ वहाँ पंहुचा , महात्मा जी भी वहीँ खड़े सब कुछ देख रहे थे .

तालाब जयादा बड़ा नहीं था , 8-10 मजदूरों ने चारों और से जाल डाला और मेढ़कों को पकड़ने लगे …थोड़ी देर की ही मेहनत में सारे मेढक पकड़ लिए गए.

जब मोहन ने देखा कि कुल मिला कर 50-60 ही मेढक पकडे गए हैं तब उसने माहत्मा जी से पूछा , “ महाराज , कल रात तो इसमें हज़ारों मेढक थे , भला आज वे सब कहाँ चले गए , यहाँ तो बस मुट्ठी भर मेढक ही बचे हैं .”

महात्मा जी गम्भीर होते हुए बोले , “ कोई मेढक कहीं नहीं गया , तुमने कल इन्ही मेढ़कों की आवाज सुनी थी , ये मुट्ठी भर मेढक ही इतना शोर कर रहे थे तुम्हे लगा हज़ारों मेढक टर्र -टर्र कर रहे हों . पुत्र, इसी प्रकार जब तुमने कुछ लोगों को अपनी बुराई करते सुना तो तुम भी यही गलती कर बैठे , तुम्हे लगा कि हर कोई तुम्हारी बुराई करता है पर सच्चाई ये है कि बुराई करने वाले लोग मुठ्ठी भर मेढक के सामान ही थे. इसलिए अगली बार किसी को अपनी बुराई करते सुनना तो इतना याद रखना कि हो सकता है ये कुछ ही लोग हों जो ऐसा कर रहे हों , और इस बात को भी समझना कि भले तुम कितने ही अच्छे क्यों न हो ऐसे कुछ लोग होंगे ही होंगे जो तुम्हारी बुराई करेंगे।”

अब मोहन को अपनी गलती का अहसास हो चुका था , वह पुनः पुराना वाला मोहन बन चुका था.

Friends, मोहन की तरह हमें भी कुछ लोगों के व्यवहार को हर किसी का व्यवहार नहीं समझ लेना चाहिए और positive frame of mind से अपनी ज़िन्दगी जीनी चाहिए। हम कुछ भी कर लें पर life में कभी ना कभी ऐसी समस्या आ ही जाती है जो रात के अँधेरे में ऐसी लगती है मानो हज़ारों मेढक कान में टर्र-टर्र कर रहे हों। पर जब दिन के उजाले में हम उसका समाधान करने का प्रयास करते हैं तो वही समस्या छोटी लगने लगती है. इसलिए हमें ऐसी situations में घबराने की बजाये उसका solution खोजने का प्रयास करना चाहिए और कभी भी मुट्ठी भर मेढकों से घबराना नहीं चाहिए.

Sometimes In Life

Q: Should I quit the membership of the church? (I belong to a Catholic Church).

Guruji: That is your choice you can continue to be a member or if you do not feel like it, you can quit. It is your own choice. The issue is not whether you are a member or not.


Q: What would be your best memory of happiness?

Guruji: Happiness is when you want nothing, and you want to give. Where the wanting and desires end, and the sharing begin, happiness is exactly there. Memory is not happiness. When you are happy, you forget everything. It is when happiness is gone that you dwell in its memory. In the world, people are either dreaming of happiness or remembering happiness. That is either being in the past or the future. But happiness is that which is in the present. And it is your very nature.


If you manipulate words it is a lie, if you play on words it is a joke, if you rely on words it is ignorance, if you transcend words it is Wisdom.



The greatest tests are the ones we view as stupid;
We forget to tell those who are important to us just how much we care,
We forget that every cloud has a silver lining,
We view our problems as though they can never be solved,
We forget that there is always a tomorrow,
We hold on to the past like it can help us through today,
We see challenges as a trial, forgetting that trials are what give us character,
We forget to smile, laugh be happy,
Life is a wonderful gift, how we accept things in life depends on how we see ourselves,
Life is wonderful; we meet wonderful people, have great friendships,
share wonderful secrets moments get to be loved, to love,

You’re As Happy As You Want To Be

If you are not happy as you are, where you are, you will never be happy, said Swami Rama Tirtha.Yet everyone is waiting for one or two things to change to be happy. You suffer from the JATC Syndrome ­ you believe that happiness is Just Around The Corner! You achieve that one thing and another comes in its place.This goes on all your life.

Happiness is your choice. You can choose to be happy in the worst of circumstances or be miserable with the best in the world. Happiness is a state of mind. When the mind is tranquil, free from agitations, you are happy . But you are in a state of constant unrest which arises from a feeling of inadequacy .

Vedanta helps you to change focus to your abundance. When you look at the millions of things you enjoy you will be grateful for the bounty conferred on you. Then the few things you do not have will cease to bother you.

The mind gets turbulent when it is full of unfulfilled desires. You carelessly entertain desires without realising the havoc they cause and the sorrow they breed.

All religions warn against the perils of unabashed pursuit of desire. Yet modern life encourages us to desire more, have more and consume more. When desire mounts to levels that are no longer sustainable by legal and ethical means people cross the line and enter the murky areas of crime and destructive behaviour.

Vedanta gives a unique formula for happiness. Happiness is the number of desires fulfilled divided by the desires harboured. You are in the mindless pursuit of fulfilling desires, focussing on the numerator. This will never make you happy. As you fulfil a desire more come up.The denominator increases, reducing your happiness. Instead shift your attention to the denominator. As you reduce desires your happiness increases. Eradicate desires and you reach infinite happiness.

The first step to eradicating desire is to examine it with the intellect ­ is it in your interest to pursue with the desire? Is the desire in line with your life’s goal? If yes, fulfil the desire.

If not, press the delete button.

The next step is to reduce desires by upgrading them.

When you are inspired with the spiritual goal all desires fade. You become all-blissful.Give up desire and objects of desire come to you. Seek the Spirit and the world will be at your feet! At times you may be happy but that happiness is dependent on everything around you being just right. Vedanta promises happiness that is completely independent of the world. The world is unpredictable, constantly changing and is a mix of pairs of opposites.To depend on such a world is like expecting to earn a steady income from gambling! Inner enrichment is inversely proportional to dependence on the world. A spiritually evolved person needs little from the world to be happy but has the capacity to command the resources of the world. A less evolved person needs much more from the world. Ironically he lacks the capability to gain them. There is a huge gap between his needs and his income which makes life hellish.

Vedanta helps in two ways. It helps leverage your talent and energies to attain success and prosperity . It also develops you spiritually by which your dependence on the world reduces. You are in bliss!

तीन अवस्थाएं कौन सी हैं ?
What are the three states of experience?

जाग्रत, स्वप्न और सुषुप्ति अवस्था l
They are: the waking, the dream and the deep-sleep states.

जाग्रत अवस्था किसे कहते हैं ?
What is the waking state?

श्रोत्र आदि ज्ञानेन्द्रियाँ और शब्द आदि विषयों के द्वारा जो जनि जाती है, उसे जागृत अवस्था कहते हैं l
The state of experience in which the sense objects (sound etc) are perceived through the
sense organs (ear etc) is the waking state.

स्वप्न अवस्था किसे कहते हैं ?

सोते समय जागृत अवस्था में जो देखा और सुना है, उससे जनित वासना द्वारा निर्मित जो प्रपंच प्रतीत होता है, उसे स्वप्न अवस्था कहते हैं l
For the question, what is Svapnavastha (the Dream state) the explanation is; the world
that is projected while in sleep from the impressions born of what has been seen or
heard in the waking state is called Dream.

सुषुप्ति अवस्था किसे कहते हैं ?
Then, what is the deep-sleep state?

हमे कुछ नही पता है, हमने सुखपूर्वक निद्रा का अनुभव किया, ये सुषुप्ति अवस्था है l That state about which one says later “I did not know anything: I have well enjoyed a
good sleep” is the deep sleep state.
